Taj Mahal – A Memorial This memorial was built by a great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, in 1631 and at the cost of 32 million rupees. To build the Taj, 20,000 craftsmen had worked over 17 years. In today’s era the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World is situated on the bank of Yamuna River in Agra. Thousands globally come to visit the Taj Mahal (symbol of love) every day. Fatehpur Sikri – Ghost City Located 37 km far from Agra, the ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri was the short lived capital of the Mughal Empire for approximately 12 years. Fatehpur Sikri was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Akbar visited Sikri to consult the Sufi saint Shaikh Salim Chisti, who predicted the birth of his son. When the prediction come true, Akbar named his prince as Salim and built his new capital here. The complex of monuments and temples presents the greatest example of Indo Islamic architecture. Fatehpur Sikri houses some major places like Diwan-i-khas, Buland Darwaza, Panch Mahal, Khwabagh, and Anup Talao. This town is adorned with largest mosque in Jama Masjid, also known as Dargah Mosque.Agra Fort – Famous for its interior Places The Red Fort is another famous construction of Mughal in Agra, also situated on the bank of Yamuna River. Built between 1565 and 1574, within the district of fort there are some major places to visit: Jahangiri Mahal, Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas, Anguri Bagh and an ornamental bath housed inside the palace of mirrors or Sheesh Mahal.
